God’s Protection in Everyday Life
Dear God, are you still there immediately brought back some distant but relevant moments from my life when God showed up unexpectedly, but always right on time in ways only he can do! These three instances come to mind:
- When I was 21 years old, I worked for a company delivering propane gas. I met a fellow driver for a cup of coffee one morning and walked in between the two trucks that were parked end to end and on a slight incline. As I went to greet my friend, I felt a very strong “push” that moved me out-of-the-way and heard a loud bang as one truck rolled into the other. If I had been standing there any longer, I probably would have end up being killed or seriously injured! The trucks’ emergency brake had not been set and the truck popped out of gear and rolled into the other!
- In 1986 I went on a hunting trip in northern Wisconsin, in very cold weather. Each room had individual space heaters in the lodge I stayed in. I went to bed early to get some sleep and quiet as the other hunters were staying up late and being pretty noisy! As I shut the door behind me, I noticed the door had come open a few inches as I climbed into bed. I woke up at 4:00 a.m. DEATHLY sick and did not get ready to hunt like I had planned. My friends coaxed me into going, telling me that I had waited a long time to be there! I decided to fight my illness and give it a try. I got to my hunting spot alone while it was still dark and I lay on the frozen ground feeling miserable and sick. As each minute passed, I could feel myself getting much better. Within an hour, I was back to feeling 100% normal!!!! I couldn’t believe the quick turnaround!! I went back to the lodge and examined the space heater and discovered the exhaust vent was plugged up!! In other words, I had carbon-monoxide poisoning!!! If I had closed the door all the way, I would’ve been gone long ago!
- About 3 years ago, I was hit by lightning after it struck a nearby light-post. I was knocked to the ground and felt a jolt of energy go through me as I fell. Miraculously, I was unharmed!! I guess the Lord wants to keep me here yet. His hand of protection is on us in our daily lives while we are sometimes not even aware of it. As the scriptures say, our times are in His hands! Yes, He is there!!!!!
